Sonic Beer Blog #1: Greater Good Evana Imperial Chocolate Stout

When Fall arrives some people strap on their Uggs and go in search of everything pumpkin spice. Personally, when the temperatures start to cool, I start turning to the dark side. Malty, grainy, dark liquids that fortify the body against the harsh New England frosts. With a 10% ABV, Greater Good’s Evana Imperial Chocolate Stout is a lot of fortification. But the high alcohol is tempered by the notes of chocolate and toffee, mixed with a smokey malt. Be warned, it goes down pretty smooth so take it slow. The finish has a bit of hops with light bitterness and carbonation.

The Sonic Pairing: This would definitely go well with Led Zeppelin; heavy and complex. I say try it with Led Zeppelin II. The nickname for that album is “The Brown Bomber” so it seems fitting. There’s a sweetness laced through the thunderous power like “What Is And What Should Never Be” or “Thank You”. Be wary of the 10% ABV or it could be a “Heartbreaker” and it might feel like John Bonham’s kick drum from “Moby Dick” is beating against the side of your skull the next morning.

All the beers in the Sonic Beer Blog are available at Wachusett Wine And Spirits in Worcester and West Boylston.

Cheers!
