The Blizzard Of 78 this brown ale references is nothing but fond memories for me. I was in fourth grade so I had absolutely nothing to worry about except for which snow bank I was going to use as a snow fort. While the adults were trying to find their buried cars in the snow I was sledding, getting clobbered in snowball fights and plow truck surfing. The world was a winter wonderland and we had no school for two weeks. It was a frosty paradise. The folks at Wormtown were able to capture that spirit of fun in this brew with its easy drinkability and delicious maltiness. This one pours a dark brown and you can smell the coffee and caramel(maybe some vanilla too) First sip is roasted coffee and cocoa with a sweetness of caramel and molasses. Dry at the finish and not too bitter. I could pound several of these with little effort. They sell this as a winter seasonal but I can definitely enjoy this all year.
The Sonic Pairing: This is definitely a good time beer that calls for a good time album. “A Nod Is As Good As A Wink…To A Blind Horse” by The Faces is as “good times” as it gets. An easy going groove with a sweetness laced through it by the soulful vocals of a young, drunk Rod Stewart and Ronnie Lane. One sip and you’ll be asking this tallboy “Stay With Me”. After a few pints you’ll be asking it to spend a weekend at “Miss Judy’s Farm”. A few of these and a giant blizzard with a few friends; “That’s All You Need”
