Yes, it’s a New Zealand Double IPA from a Vermont brewery. Confusing geography aside Burlington Beer Co. has made an exceptional Double with all the best hops from the country of the Kiwi. There is a swirl of sweetness on the nose with peach, fresh pineapple, and an enchanting floral dankness. This singed orange liquid is still sweet after the first sip with apricot and some herbal notes that I can’t quite pin down. Still floral, still sweet and hoppy but not piney or bitter. After swirling the full body around and coating my mouth I got a slight citrus, honeydew, and a light bitterness. The myriad of New Zealand hops providing a gorgeous sweetness til the very end. This is a lovely complex experience. So many different flavors popping up along the way.
The Sonic Pairing: Radiohead’s “Ok Computer” is a lush complex experience much like this Double IPA. A journey that is filled with unpredictable turns and jagged sound blasts. This is where the band started breaking apart traditional pop and rock music and reassembling it into sprawling emotional soundtracks. With the sweetness that is Thom York’s voice threading each song together. After one sip you’ll realize how “Lucky” you are to be imbibing in this creation. You won’t be “Let Down” by the amazing balance of flavors. You may even feel “Fitter Happier”. But again, I am not a doctor. Just a “Paranoid Android”.
